An evening with Dana Robinson at Cafe No9

Cafe No9 · Sheffield

DANA ROBINSON - Songwriter | Americana | Old-Time Richard Dana Robinson was born in Eugene, Oregon in 1961, and raised in the Bay Area of California. His childhood and teen years were infused with the music of the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Eric Clapton, Neil Young and the popular singer-songwriters of the 70s. Dana took up the guitar at ten years old and began writing songs emulating the sounds he was absorbing. In 1977, Dana spent his sophomore year of high school in London and was exposed to the punk scene and prog rock bands of the time, which became an undercurrent to his attitude and musical style. From 1979 to 1983 Dana hitchhiked relentlessly across the western United States, restless and looking for a place to take root. In 1984 after a summer spent busking around Europe he found a home in Northampton, Massachusetts. Dana took a job cooking at The Iron Horse, an intimate, 100-seat music club. There he witnessed performances from some of the great songwriters and musicians of the time. Artists such as Shawn Colvin, Loudon Wainwright, Bill Staines, Martin Simpson and Doc Watson provided live examples of how one person, armed with a guitar, could move an audience and make...

Dana Robinson (USA) in concert in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support

Sixth Fiend Taphouse · Huddersfield

Join us for an evening of outstanding live music in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support! Headlining the concert is Vermont based singer-songwriter, Dana Robinson, with local favourites, Druce and Jones opening the show. Whilst Dana’s music has in roots in old time Americana, country blues and folk, his own work is constantly evolving, as demonstrated by his most recent album, The Sound of the Word. Unsurprisingly, Dana’s touring on both sides of the Atlantic has cemented his reputation as a fine and insightful songwriter for the ages. Emily Druce has been performing on the UK acoustic circuit since 1996, both solo and in a duo with Steve Jones. Multi-instrumentalist Emily started playing violin at an early age and took up guitar in her teens. Steve, himself a fine musician and Luthier, shares Emily’s passion for country blues. Both have had extensive national airplay and also appeared live on Radio 2 and 4. Since 1911 Macmillan has been at the forefront of supporting people with cancer, as well as their families. Their work encompasses everything from cutting edge research to the practicalities of delivering front line services, yet 98% of Macmillan’s funding relies heavily on...
