Alastair Gordon + Sekinue

Pink Moon · Brighton

Alastair Gordon is a Sheffield-based folk & blues musician currently touring his debut album on Pear O'Legs Records "Behind the Washing Line". "Off kilter quirky baritone - that's a very difficult style to pull off. Alastair absolutely nails it." Christian Carlisle, BBC Sheffield "Channeling the great Cohen through a Divine Comedy filter" Folk My Life "one of the best records I’ve heard this month" Cheers to the Vikings "understated richness" Songplode https://alastairgordon.bandcamp.com/track/promenade Sekinue's live performances present an extraordinary sense of musical intimacy, inviting their listeners into a state of bliss over the harp sound. They turn even the simplest of sequences into a whirl of emotion, inciting a rare form of musical honesty not to be missed. “[Sekinue’s] music sounds like it belongs in film, I could easily see this as the music that leads a horror or romance scene; it’s versatile and a true display of masterful talent.” - Earworms Music and Media “If you were to waltz around an empty forest with a familiar ghost and fog attached to your arm, you’d experience what it feels like to listen to ‘Knives’ by Sekinue.” - Harmonics Magazine h...

Black Cat Music Presents: Banjo Jen

Green Note · London

Original Americana with Yorkshire personality. Sheffield-based artist Banjo Jen is difficult to categorise but easy to fall for. This autumn, she’ll be returning to Green Note with her band ‘The Junk’ and their unique brand of folky Americana, to celebrate the release of her eagerly-awaited third EP ‘In the End’. With razor-sharp songwriting, percussive Appalachian step-dancing, and engaging between-song banter, Banjo Jen’s refreshingly original live act is guaranteed to win the heart of every crowd. Tipped by Maverick magazine for a ‘long musical career’, Jen hit the ground running by performing in Austin TX at SXSW fringe events shortly after her first ever gig. She was then selected by the Americana Music Association UK to showcase at Red Rooster and The Long Road festivals, has since sold out headline shows and supported many touring international Americana acts and British folk artists, establishing herself as one to watch on the growing UK Americana scene. From tales of feisty female gold-rush entrepreneurs, murderous nursery rhyme characters and weary mill workers, to Jen’s own adventures and experiences in love and life, her eclectic songs are brought to l...

Headcase

Dublin Castle · London

Headcase - possibly named with the whacky rocknroll antics of the highly entertaining singer in mind, or perhaps because they’re packed full of nutritious riffs, this band bridge Britpop, punk and alt rock and give an ace party performance. Irene - fabulous Freach alt-rock two-piece featuring slowburning tunes in the vein of Radiohead, also shades of Dinosaur Jr and Sonic Youth, et bien marche. Mechanicals - recently released debut single ‘Sweet Lover’ which was played on Meridian FM /Deal Radio, and more songs due to be released soon! “Great Rock Band! Really solid! Really good singer!" (Rough Edges) The Januarys - slippery, slinky funk with groovy rock and blues overtones and lots of syncopated pizzazz. A collective keeping it cool. And what’s more chilled than Januarys? Plus of course DJ Sue til 2am

Penelope Isles

YES · Manchester

Hailing from the Isle of Man via the uncomfortable shingles of Brighton beach, Penelope Isles resurface – shimming in sunlight and shadow. Three years since their last show, life has quietly reshaped everything. Two solo records released into the world, new bands formed, old rhythms broken, and a magnetic pull back toward each other that couldn’t be ignored – Penny Isles’ sound remains unmistakable — fuzz-drenched, melody-rich, and charged with feeling. Now expanded into a true three-piece with drummer Joe Taylor, Penelope Isles sound bigger, looser, and more alive than ever. Guitars shimmer and collide, harmonies ache and lift, drums crash like eerie weather rolling in fast off the coast. The Wolter siblings write songs like postcards from somewhere just out of reach — Brighton seafront flats, off-kilter restaurants, memories half-burned in the sun. Beautiful, fragile, and always on the edge of slipping away. Still obsessed with love, heartbreak, and what lingers after, Penelope Isles are at their most open, luminous, and unsteady. And everything feels like it’s moving again. Tour support comes from AtticOmatic. Brighton’s’ AtticOmatic resists easy definition and...
