Marquee Square Heroes

The Ruze · Chippenham

On 29th January 2027, Marquee Square Heroes bring the music of Fish-era Marillion to The Rūze in Chippenham for the first time. There is a little piece of Marillion history attached to the town, too. Back in 1984, while the band were beginning to make their mark on the UK live circuit, Marillion played at Goldiggers in Chippenham. More than four decades later, Marquee Square Heroes return to the town to celebrate the music of that remarkable era. This was Marillion at their most dramatic and distinctive, creating music that could move from delicate, atmospheric passages to huge, emotionally charged climaxes, all underpinned by some of the finest musicianship of the era. Marquee Square Heroes immerse themselves in that world, performing songs from the albums that established Marillion as one of progressive rock’s most compelling bands. Expect the intensity of *Script for a Jester’s Tear* and *Fugazi*, the epic sweep of *Misplaced Childhood* and the darker, more expansive territory of *Clutching at Straws*. These are songs built around atmosphere, narrative and musical detail, and they deserve to be heard played with the same sense of scale and conviction. For anyone who remembe...

The Face bar · Reading

Echoes of Halcyon Days: A Tribute to Marillion and Marquee Square Heroes Reflections on a Generation’s Musical Journey and the Enduring Power of Nostalgia “So here you are once more...” Born from a deep love of the early Marillion era and the powerful emotions it evoked, Marquee Square Heroes celebrate one of the most defining chapters in British rock history. For those who grew up in the wake of punk and the rise of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal, Marillion’s music spoke directly to the heart—telling stories of love, loss, identity, and the struggles of a generation. From Script for a Jester’s Tear to Clutching at Straws, their songs captured a moment in time—melancholic yet defiant, poetic yet raw. Now, forty years on, Marquee Square Heroes bring that era vividly back to life. Featuring accomplished musicians from the progressive rock scene—including contemporaries of Marillion from their legendary Marquee days—the band delivers an authentic, two-and-a-half-hour journey through Fish’s tenure with emotion, precision, and respect. Praised by PROG Magazine, with original figures from the Marillion story such as Bush Telfer and Stef Jeffery among their audien...
