An Evening of Harold Pinter Featuring The Lover

Barns · Wingfield

Wednesday 4th November 7.30pm - The Lover & Landscape: An Evening of Harold Pinter performed by Open Space Theatre Before leaving for work, a man wishes his wife well for the planned visit of her lover during the afternoon. It is a long-term arrangement which apparently leaves the husband free to see his mistress. But is it? All is not as it seems in Pinter’s hilarious and quirky comedy of marital capers. Also, on the bill during an evening with Pinter is Landscape, the playwright’s classic study of the failure of communication between a man and a woman.

MEAT by James McDermott

Barns · Wingfield

Based on true events, Meat is set in Norfolk, 1742, and tells the story of a tailor condemned for sodomy and murder. Through an intimate and poetic lens, the play explores forbidden desire, secrecy, and the devastating consequences of living outside society’s rules. A haunting reflection on love, identity, and the cost of being seen. Meat by James McDermott is a bold and thought-provoking historical drama that explores identity, desire, and sexuality in rural England. Set in Diss, Norfolk, the play tells the little-known true story of Robert Carleton, a 17th-century tailor and his secret relationship with his apprentice Jon Lincoln. The story takes a dark turn when Jon’s fiancé, Mary, comes for dinner with the two tailors. Through powerful storytelling and poetic language, Meat reimagines Carleton’s experience with heart and humanity challenging audiences to confront the past while reflecting on how far we’ve come, and how far we still have to go.

The Seagull By Anton Chekhov

Barns · Wingfield

"We are all fools in love—and even bigger fools in art." Anton Chekov wrote comedies, bittersweet comedies about our dreams and our human failings. Set on a country estate where everyone is in love with the wrong person and convinced their life is a tragedy, RoughCast’s typically fast-moving production and clear storytelling bring out all the humour and poignancy of Chekov’s enduring and endearing masterpiece.
