Benji Kirkpatrick is a singer, songwriter and musician. A “fretboard wizard” (Time Out) of multiple stringed instruments – bouzouki, guitar, banjo, mandolin – he has been performing solo for over 25 years. As a key founder member of folk big band, Bellowhead, Benji has enjoyed playing in front of large festival audiences as well appearances on the likes of Later… with Jools Holland. His latest solo album In Phase, released in autumn 2023, features all original songs written between 2020 and 2022. Lauded releases such as ‘Boomerang’ (2008) and ‘Hendrix Songs’ (2015) – an album of acoustic re-interpretations of the work of Jimi Hendrix – have punctuated his exploits over the years alongside extensive work with others. 2019 saw the release of ‘Gold Has Worn Away’ on German based label Westpark Music, the only release from Benji’s then band ‘Benji Kirkpatrick & The Excess’; a roots-based power trio comprising of Pete Thomas (Jackie Oates, Megan Henwood) on bass and Joelle Barker (Edwin Starr band, Del Camino) on drums. Pete Flood, also of Bellowhead, occupied the drum seat until 2022. Benji was head hunted by folk rock pioneers, Steeleye Span in 2017 (40...

Terry Hiscock + Tim Mellor - LIVE IN CAMBRIDGE

NCI Club · Cambridge

When he’s not touring with folk-rockers Hunter Muskett, Terry performs acoustic songs from the band’s repertoire both old and new and is now a sought-after musician on the circuit in his own right. Having played up and down the land in countless clubs and festivals, he has accumulated a wealth of stories and anecdotes to delight his audiences yet it is the performances of Terry’s own songs which stay long in the memory. Often accompanied by Rog Trevitt from Hunter Muskett on guitar and mandolin, these two evoke both the golden age of folk music in the late ‘60s while performing songs relevant to today. Tim Mellor is a skilled Northumbrian piper, singer and guitarist. His repertoire of songs and tunes breathes new life into traditional music from the UK and beyond. As a founding member of the Black Fen Folk Club, it's a real treat to hear Tim for an extended set for the first time in a number of years. Aidan Thorne and Jason Ball, David Ian Roberts

The Globe at Hay · Hereford

Aidan Thorne & Jason Ball Invoke nostalgia, and rekindle a memory of a time and/or place. The pieces are engulfed in a fog of guitar ambience and measured 6 string bass textures. Deeply rooted in jazz, the style carefully glides between written and improvised elements. Some of the compositions were realised and refined from recordings of loose jam sessions. One may hear nods to influences from 70’s ECM records such as Terje Rypdall or Bill Frizell. "A fantastic deep dive into lesser-known Welsh folk tunes” Jude Rodgers, The Guardian “An unforgettable musical experience” **** Ian Mann, Jazzmann Blog “a beguiling instrumental set" - Tim Cumming, Songlines David Ian Roberts will be performing a new set of unreleased instrumental electric guitar pieces ahead of recording his new album. Owing as much to Jeff Buckley's solo guitar work as to folk influences Nick Drake or Bert Jansch, Roberts uses the simplicity of just a telecaster and a reverb pedal to intimate but dazzling effect. "A quiet masterpiece” Mark Radcliffe BBC Radio 2 "A performance of astounding artistry - guitar patterns that match even the legacies of a Nick Drake or Sufjan Stevens" RnR "Quietly Exceptional" U...
