Oklahoma is a hotbed of good music and no-one knows that better than ‘Queen ofOklahoma’ Carter Sampson, who returns to the UK for a full-band tour in April 2027. Carter will be touring to promote her brand new album, scheduled for release on both sides of the Atlantic in early 2027, and will be appearing with her regular touring band. In addition, she’s also announced the release of a special 10th Anniversary Vinyl Edition of her hit album Lucky, previously only available on CD, now available for the first time in the UK on this tour. Sampson writes relatable and honest songs about family, love, life and historical characters. She’s released eight albums with her last full-band album, Gold, spending many months on the Americana Music Charts. She tours internationally, and has had much success playing regularly in Europe and the UK: ‘I really love playing in Europe. I joke about it a lot but American audiences are generally loud and don’t listen very well – European audiences are so quiet and kind!’ Carter is also founder and director of the Rock and Roll Camp for Girls OKC, a non-profit organisation set up in Oklahoma that empowers girls, women and non-binary folks...

Still Life

Assembly Rooms · Presteigne

Still Life is a meditation in memoir and poetry contemplating the many aspects of loss which come when we love others. Carol Caffrey's tender narrative is the central strand. She experienced multiple bereavements when her four siblings - two brothers, two sisters - died within a few years of each other. Liz Lefroy has woven her poetry around this narrative, creating space for pause and reflection; and, for this November performance, Liz and Carol have chosen to include poems by Wilfred Owen. "Still life is a haunting performance: two women with their beautiful voices in a fascinating interweaving of their deeply moving poetry of loss and pain." Deb Alma, The Emergency Poet This event is produced in collaboration with Wings of Change and there will be a discussion and sharing on loss after the main event.

Burns and Doran’s ‘clever and uncluttered musical storytelling’ (Songlines****) comes alive through close vocal harmonies and sensitive interplay between mandolin, bouzouki and guitar. Their arrangements have a spellbinding presence and an understated energy that transports songs from the pages of books and manuscripts into the imagination of the listener. With their relaxed and personable approach to performance, Burns and Doran are renowned for the warmth of their connection with audiences. From Stage 2 at Cambridge Folk Festival, to Celtic Connections, Edinburgh Tradfest and Cecil Sharp House, the duo are highly sought after across the UK and beyond. They’ve performed in top venues across Europe, including Tivoli Vredenburg (Utrecht), Le Trianon (Paris), and Islington Assembly Hall (London) whilst on a support tour with pagan folk outfit, FAUN.
