We're delighted to welcome the fantastic Jon Doran & the Northern Assembly back to Otley. This is a groundbreaking new collaboration seeking to capture the excitement that lies within traditional song. The trio aims to breathe new life into old stories from across the British Isles, injecting the energy they feel these narratives deserve. With striking vocals from Jon Doran (BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award Finalist 2019), combined with the virtuosic playing of Jordan Aikin (“trailblazer” - Calum MacCrimmon, Breabach), and Heather Ferrier (“accordion virtuoso” – Tom Robinson), the trio perform songs that create “a cohesive musical framework with intricately layered arrangements, each song from the traditional folk canon unfolding a vivid drama” (Folk London). Their eponymous debut EP, released in 2024, gained an overwhelming amount of positive feedback and secured airplay on shows such as BBC Radio 2, BBC Introducing North East, and BBC Radio Lincolnshire. “Filled to the brim with energy, excitement and a lust for life” (TradFolk), the trio move away from a conventional folk-song performance style and lean heavily upon their varied musical upbringings and experiences...

GEORGE BOOMSMA - Full Band Gig

Black Horse Function Room · Otley

We're delighted to welcome the brilliant George Boomsma back to Otley and this time he's bringing his full band! George is a singer and songwriter from North Yorkshire in the UK, and is currently based in Birmingham. Expect organic instrumentation with a folk-rock influence. George has built a solid following throughout the UK and beyond with his captivating and dynamic full band tour performances and festival appearances. He has previously been championed by the likes of Mark Radcliffe on BBC Radio 2 and Cerys Matthews on BBC Radio 6 and George’s 2026 main stage festival appearances include Beardy Folk Festival and Cambridge Folk Festival. While George’s music may be subconsciously informed by the ridings of Yorkshire and the folk tradition so prevalent in the area, his songwriting comes from a deeply personal place. His rich vocals and confident lyrical style are reflected in his storytelling, while his guitar work often echoes Nick Drake in approach. Organic instrumentation with a folk-rock influence reminiscent of classic Crosby, Stills & Nash and Jeff Buckley is evident. Traditional folk signatures and themes run throughout, blending country motifs and klezmer modes, with...
