The Brothers Gillespie

Arts Centre · Ashburton

“When The Brothers Gillespie sing, a portal opens. Seeing them perform for the first time felt like I was reminded who I really was…the thread of their ethereal voices weaving a spell around the room. They sing with an ancient wisdom that is entirely for us, now — nothing feels more present. Their beautiful music will open your heart” Johnny Flynn (actor and musician) The songs of Northumbrian folk alchemists The Brothers Gillespie (James and Sam Gillespie) are animated by lyrical poetry, fluid fingerstyle guitar, multi-instrumental musicianship and “the glorious tones of their blood harmony” (Sam Lee). Theirs is a music of encounter, of lark song and crow call, ash leaves and hidden ways. It is rooted in the earth and arises most strongly for them when they are out walking in the borderlands with their packs and instruments. Bringing together visionary mythopoetics with a radical spirit, the brothers tread an older path whilst singing with fierce tenderness to the present time in its grief and luminosity. Their live performances are known for a rare intimacy and the spontaneous ways they weave tales around the songs and invite audiences into the heart of the music. In...

Dick Taylor (Pretty Things) & Tallyman

Black Frog Presents at the Hot Box · Chelmsford

DICK TAYLOR, the Rolling Stones' first bass-player in the 1960s, Keith Richards said it is Dick's mum who was responsible for his addictions getting him hooked on Jaffa Cakes. When Bill Wyman joined the Stones, Dick left and started THE PRETTY THINGS as a guitarist together with singer PHIL MAY who sadly died in 2020. In 2018, at the Final Bow Concert in London's Indigo/O2 Arena, the story of one of the rawest and most influential bands in British R&B came to an end, respectfully supported by international icons such as Pink Floyd's David Gilmour and Van Morrison. In 2024, DICK TAYLOR collaborated with the dedicated and authentic German band TALLYMAN, featuring former Wallenstein member JUERGEN PLUTA, playing mainly the Pretty Things' early songbook, which will be performed live, step by step, extended by their later tracks classics like Rosalyn, Don’t Bring Me Down, Road Runner, Can’t Stand the Pain, Midnight to Six Man, Alexander, Buzz the Jerk, Get the Picture, Come see me, Rain’ in my Heart, Baron Saturday – with Dick featured on lead vocals, etc.. And of course ending with a highly extended version of £.s.d. featuring once again DICK TAYLOR’s amazing guitar work. Ic...
