Take everything you think you know about singer songwriters and rip it up. For one man and a guitar he creates a performance with a huge far-reaching sound that is energetic, compelling, and passionate. Be it to two hundred people or twenty thousand, he blows the crowd away night after night. After being signed to Sony Music in the early 1990s, for whom he recorded 2 albums and achieved Top 40 chart success, Martyn became a trailblazer for independent musicians. He launched his own record label in 1999 forging a successful career using the internet, ahead of many other artists. In November 2025 he released his 28th studio album, Troubled Horses, in Martyn’s own words, “I wanted to create a record that felt up-close and personal, songs that are sitting right next to you, on the edge of too close for comfort.” It’s an album of haunting, elegiac songs, acoustically-recorded pared-back lo-fi snapshots. In 2024 he was invited by BBC Radio 2 for a second time to write a song as part of their brand new award winning 21st Century Folk project, penning and performing Chapel Porth Beach, to mark the 200th Anniversary of the RNLI. This was following on from the success of his 2023 tra...

He'll also perform songs from his previous albums The Glass Age, Voices From The Cones, That’s Where I Belong and beyond. The Brothers Gillespie

Arts Centre · Ashburton

“When The Brothers Gillespie sing, a portal opens. Seeing them perform for the first time felt like I was reminded who I really was…the thread of their ethereal voices weaving a spell around the room. They sing with an ancient wisdom that is entirely for us, now — nothing feels more present. Their beautiful music will open your heart” Johnny Flynn (actor and musician) The songs of Northumbrian folk alchemists The Brothers Gillespie (James and Sam Gillespie) are animated by lyrical poetry, fluid fingerstyle guitar, multi-instrumental musicianship and “the glorious tones of their blood harmony” (Sam Lee). Theirs is a music of encounter, of lark song and crow call, ash leaves and hidden ways. It is rooted in the earth and arises most strongly for them when they are out walking in the borderlands with their packs and instruments. Bringing together visionary mythopoetics with a radical spirit, the brothers tread an older path whilst singing with fierce tenderness to the present time in its grief and luminosity. Their live performances are known for a rare intimacy and the spontaneous ways they weave tales around the songs and invite audiences into the heart of the music. In...
