From Hollywood pinup to heroin addict, An Evening with the Chet Set celebrates the life and music of Chet Baker, the eponymous trumpet player and vocalist whose career saw him paired with artists as diverse as Charlie Parker and Elvis Costello before meeting his end on an Amsterdam pavement. Pete can be seen fronting not only The Chet Set, but also Cuban Heels, a celebration of Latin Lounge music. Chet Set Bassist Mick Shoulder is equally at home on Gypsy guitar and tours regularly with his group, Swing Manouche. Alan Law’s piano style ranges from the classic sounds of the Great American Songbook through to Cuban and Latin funk. As the pianist for the Tom Waits tribute, Tom Waits for No Man, he has toured nationally and has featured on BBC 6 Music. John Bradford i...

BUBAMARA

Claypath Delicatessen · Durham

It seems only right that after the rigours of the Covid age we should welcome live music back to Claypath Deli with one of Durham’s finest bands - the mighty BUBAMARA who are sure to give the evening a right kick up the Balkans with their unique blend of Sicilian skiffle, Cossack ska, and songs plucked from the hash houses of Greece. Bubamara is truly a high energy Mediterranean infused extravaganza - the brainchild of Ivor Pop: a songwriter and performer with an effervescent, internationalist approach to music. Inspired by Pop’s time spent living in a kibbutz and his travels across Europe, Bubamara’s music incorporates klezmer, Anatolian grooves and pre-pop folk music. Expect to have fun in this menagerie of folk-punk exotica. ‘Bubamara are a true event, after listening to them songs will not remain the same in your music imaginary’ - Slavoj Zizek
