Following the sad death of frontman Matt Long in October 2024, two of the remaining members of multiple UK Blues award winners Catfish wanted to continue to write and perform together so have teamed up with the excellent Mitch Weaving on drums, who was a regular dep with Catfish, along with guitarist Alex Voysey (nominated by the UK Blues Awards 2025 Best Album category for his album Blues in Isolation), who has been gigging heavily with The Alex Voysey Band in recent years, to form a new band: Burning Rope! Formed in 2020, the band's show is the closest think you'll see and hear to the real thing! Complete with authentic stage props, costume changes and spinning guitars, you can expect to hear all the classic songs from That Little Ol' Band from Texas (well, Essex in this case!). We're excited to announce that we have once again secured the services of rock and roll legend Mike Sanchez - backed by 4-piece band The Portions - to play at JJJ on Friday 9th July! British singer and pianist Mike Sanchez is one of the most exciting and charismatic performers in the world of rhythm & blues and rock 'n' roll. His indelible image as a frenetic front man, pumping powerful boogie-woogie from the piano in a soaking suit, has won him fans from all over the world and attracted a following from many famous rock and blues legends who have lined up to work with him. Procol Harum pianist Gary Brooker became an early fan and introduced Mike to his friends Eric Clapton and Amen Corner's Andy Fairweather-Low. The latter signed up as guitarist with the Big Town Playboys for two years in the 1990s. Fleetwood Mac's Mick Fleetwood is another good friend who has regularly involved Mike in his plans wherever possible. The five piece band - Andrew Abberley (Lead Guitar Backing Vocals), Phil Maggs (Drums Backing Vocals), Martin Oakley (Lead Vocals Guitars), Pete Haynes (Lead Vocals Bass Guitars) and Julie Kimber (Saxophone) - play a wide range and variety of great music to please and satisfy the tastes of even the most discerning punter, with all songs performed to a very high standard, with great feeling, passion and a good helping of a’ la Rascals’ magic.
