DOUBLE-HEADER: LINDA MOYLAN BAND and WICKENWOOD

Memorial Hall · Otford

LINDA MOYLAN is an Irish born, London raised folk singer-songwriter with a voice that can spiral from earthy to angelic in an instant and delivers the moving and relatable narratives of her songs with an enchanting Irish troubadour twist. Her voice switches effortlessly between the sultry, the bluesy, the smoky and the unbelievably sweet – sometimes during the same song. Linda’s third album, ‘The Fool’, released in 2024, is a definitive, mature and self-assured piece of work that completes Linda’s transition from gifted singer to fully-fledged and unique musical artist. On the live stage, Linda and her band, guitarist Ian Montague and fiddle player Rebecca Mileham, are simply immaculate, providing a rich and atmospheric journey that sees them delivering stunning tunes that demonstrate Linda’s power both as a writer and performer. With a warm, humorous, charismatic stage presence Linda and her band will sweep you up, take you along for the ride and deliver you gently back to earth, fully satisfied, at the conclusion. WICKENWOOD are an indie-folk trio hailing from Hemel Hempstead, not that you’d know that from their songwriting: Their passion for history and folklore ta...

PAINTED SKY

Memorial Hall · Otford

Painted Sky have only recently emerged onto the UK folk scene, but they have already made a lasting impression with their progressive acoustic sound. Siblings George Brandon (guitar/vocal) and Holly Brandon (fiddle/vocal) have been making music together for as long as they can remember. Both have worked on independent projects, with George performing solo and Holly, perhaps best known as part of transatlantic folk band, The Magpies. But the siblings have always been drawn back to each other’s playing; tight-knit instrumentals and harmonies reflect the bedrock of their lifelong musical history. Original material thoughtfully balances the duo’s roots in traditional English music. Their songs are characterised by honest vocals and timeless storytelling, underpinned by driving rhythms. Whilst their exquisite instrumentals weave delicate finger-picking guitar and soaring fiddle with a dynamic energy. They seamlessly blend tunes from further afield too, from the complex rhythms of Eastern Europe to the stomping fiddle tunes of Quebec, to create a distinct and borderless synthesis of contemporary folk.

Her hard living music has garnered her the nickname “Canada’s Queen of Americana.” And while her deep, bluesy croon has drawn comparisons to Lucinda Williams and Gillian Welch, it’s the poetry of her lyrics that really sets her apart. Lynne will be touring with her long-term sidekick, guitarist Blair Michael Hogan, whose playing lends itself perfectly to Lynne’s songs. Together these two provide an unforgettable live experience, one that should not be missed.

ANNIE DRESSNER

Memorial Hall · Otford

Annie Dressner is a singer-songwriter, originally from New York City but now living in Cambridge, UK. Brimming with razor sharp wit, emotional poignancy and glorious melodies, Annie’s straightforward lyrical style, smart wordplay and lilting vocals offer listeners a front row seat to her captivating stories. Having started singing from a very young age, Annie used music to process her feelings and thoughts about life. She recorded her first album whilst in NYC but following the sudden tragic death of her mother, she moved to England and had to start from scratch. She spent the first year reading (and emailing everyone in) The Unsigned Guide, and playing any show that she could. With grit and determination she released four further albums, numerous singles and EPs. With universal themes of love and loss, her next album is a dramatic step up for Annie, whose emotional intelligence and remarkable songwriting skills have been honed to the next level, to reveal a startlingly assured selection of some of the finest indie pop folk songs you are likely to hear this year. Annie will be playing with a full band to give her exquisite songs even more depth and feeling, so definitely not a ni...

SOUND OF THE SIRENS

Memorial Hall · Otford

Sound of the Sirens are an acoustic singer-songwriting duo based in Exeter, Devon comprising of Abbe Martin & Hannah Wood. Honing their craft over the past decade, the two have cemented themselves as firm favourites not only on the West Country scene, but nationally, and internationally too. Their status, and fast-growing fan-base is not only testament to the pair’s prowess as songwriters and musicians, but as people too. Abbe & Hannah are two of the hardest working musicians on the scene and wear their hearts very much on their sleeves in terms of their songwriting. The pair glide gracefully through laments of past relationships, and life experiences, as well as highlighting the important topics of the day. The pairs’ musical and vocal dexterity dovetail beautifully on the co-written songs, which range from beautiful, emotive ballads, to up-beat, foot stomping, hands in the air, sing-along anthems. The dynamic duo and their musical creations translate very well onto recorded media, but it is in the live arena where the girls truly excel. There is a certain majesty about their live performances that simply cannot be put into words. It is this “je ne sais quoi” that keeps th...
