Richard Shindell - live at St Nicholas', Beverley

St Nicholas' Church · Beverley

Richard Shindell lives as both an immigrant and emigrant, crossing thresholds, that informs his illumination of the human experience through narrative song. Shindell has inhabited a Zen Buddhist monastery, busked in the streets of Paris, opened for Joan Baez (who covered several of his songs), and collaborated with Grammy-winner Larry Campbell (Bob Dylan, Levon Helm, Elvis Costello). Originally from New York, now living in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Shindell is a writer whose songs paint pictures, tell stories, juxtapose ideas and images, inhabit characters, vividly evoking entire worlds along the way and expanding our sense of just what it is a song may be. Meticulously recorded over three years in New York and Buenos Aires, his most recent release, Careless, offered an ambitious, luxurious, full-length statement. Shindell immersed himself in the studio, allowing the time and latitude to explore, experiment, take risks—to play—as each of these eleven songs was given form and substance. While his signature acoustic guitar style is used to good effect, Careless also found Shindell plugging in more. “The wider sonic and dynamic range of the electric has been a real inspiration. R...

Jade Helliwell - live at St Nicholas', Beverley

St Nicholas' Church · Beverley

This December, Beverley plays host to one of the UK’s standout country voices as Jade Helliwell brings a special acoustic Christmas show to East Yorkshire. Described by The Independent as “the future of country music in the UK,” Jade’s journey has taken her from a chance viral moment on the streets of Leeds to sold-out tours, major festival stages and multiple award wins. Along the way she’s built a loyal audience drawn to her honest songwriting, warm vocal, and a sound that blends modern country with a distinctly British feel. For this festive show, things are stripped right back — an intimate setting, acoustic arrangements, and the kind of atmosphere that suits her music perfectly. Expect a mix of her best-loved songs alongside seasonal touches, delivered with charm, humour and real connection. Influenced by great storytellers like Dolly Parton and Patsy Cline, Jade brings a sense of warmth and escapism that feels right at home at Christmas. It’s a chance to catch an artist in her element — up close, unfiltered, and at the top of her game.

Amelia Coburn

St Nicholas' Church · Beverley

Come and see a remarkable new talent performing live in Beverley Amelia Coburn has a knack for making the unusual sound timeless. Her honest, occasionally hilarious and quintessentially north-eastern persona disarms and beguiles in equal measure. Drawing inspiration from gothic literature and the shadowy allure of film noir, there is a darkness at the heart of many of her songs, populated by vivid characters and nocturnal creatures that inhabit the liminal space “between the moon and the milkman”. Her Bill Ryder-Jones produced debut album gained a cult following, with national radio play across BBC Radios 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6, as well as tastemaker support from Mojo, The Line of Best Fit, Shindig! Magazine, The Arts Desk, Clash, Americana UK, KLOF Mag, Far Out and many more. A breakthrough 2025 saw her hailed as “one to watch” by Louder Than War and Drowned In Sound, as well as spellbinding sets at SXSW in Texas and a feature on Paul Weller’s latest album ‘Find El Dorado’. Tour supports with the likes of The Levellers, Rianne Downey, Hamish Hawk, Stornoway, Rumer and Katherine Priddy followed - not to mention her own sold-out Royal Albert Hall ‘Elgar Room’ show and me...

Bluetones (acoustic)

St Nicholas' Church · Beverley

An intimate evening with two members of Britpop legends The Bluetones, as Mark Morriss and Adam Devlin bring the band’s much-loved songs to life in a special acoustic setting. With over three decades of songwriting and touring behind them, and a catalogue spanning six albums and fourteen Top 40 singles, Morriss and Devlin strip things back to the essence—melody, harmony, and musicianship—perfectly suited to the atmospheric surroundings of St Nicholas’ Church. Fresh from a near sold-out UK tour, this acoustic show offers something more personal: two hours of classic songs, deep cuts, and stories from the road, delivered with warmth, humour, and the easy chemistry of a partnership forged over 30 years. Expect an engaging, up-close performance that captures the spirit of The Bluetones in a way few shows can. “…add to that Mark’s unique voice, the requisite melodies and soaring guitars and you could also make reference to several classic West Coast USA artists and beyond.” – Louder Than War “…brilliant as always, great music and very engaging with the audience. Mark has a great voice… Brilliant night!” – Audience review

Beverley Folk Festival 2027 presents Chris Brain

St Nicholas' Church · Beverley

A night of exquisite songwriting in one of Beverley's most atmospheric settings. Yorkshire's own Chris Brain headlines, bringing his fourth album Red Sun Rising — a quietly powerful record of yearning and restlessness, steeped in the British pastoral tradition. A regular on BBC Radio 6 Music and Radio 2's Folk Show, Chris has taken his acoustic storytelling from sold-out UK tours to a sold-out run across Japan. Mark Radcliffe hears "shades of the master Ralph McTell" — Songlines calls it "contemporary folk song at its finest." Support comes from Sorrel Nation, the travelling troubadour whose rooted Americana sound — folk-rock, country and a voice of real depth — has made her a rising name on the festival circuit (Black Deer, Cambridge Folk, Isle of Wight). Fresh from her acclaimed debut album Lost En Route, Sorrel arrives promoting most recent album Creeping Thyme, with Americana-UK naming her one of the buzziest singer-songwriters on the UK scene right now. As ever, there will be a warm St Nick's welcome, great acoustics, a licensed bar, and a merch stall.
