About this event

Benji Kirkpatrick is on Sunday 7 February 2027 at Cabbage Patch Pub, Twickenham, with doors at 19:45. Tickets start at £15.40, including the booking fee.

A veteran of the folk scene, Benji Kirkpatrick is perhaps best know for his astounding bouzouki and guitar playing in bands such as Bellowhead and Faustus, as well as touring extensively with Seth Lakeman and his stint as a member of folk-rock legends Steeleye Span. However, he is also a superb solo performer and released his latest album, In Phase, in 2023, once again showcasing his outstanding playing, singing and songwriting. Benji recorded the new material with engineer and producer, Pete Brown (son of Joe Brown, brother of Sam) at his studio in Oxfordshire. Work started at the end of summer 2022 and finished in spring 2023. Featured guests include Pete Thomas and Joelle Barker from Benji's power trio The Excess, Alex Hart (Benji’s bandmate with the Seth Lakeman band), veteran backing vocalist Aitch McRobbie and Pete Brown himself. In Phase is Benji's sixth album with his name on the cover, and the songs range from the intensely personal – as in the title track about trying to make a connection to someone in the non-physical realm – to political and worldwide issues and the search for truth.

Johnny Campbell

Cabbage Patch Pub · Twickenham

Johnny Campbell's work delves deep into folk song and story. His 2020 album, From Hull & Halifax & Hell (2020) took him to the Faroe Islands, where he recorded a live album on the island of Nolsoy. Since musical instruments hadn't arrived on the islands until the 19th century, this was perhaps the first time English traditional songs had been recorded on the islands. The album earned him album of the week with blues and roots radio and reviews with British folk press. Since March 2020, Campbell hasn't relented, releasing three singles, "Hard Times Of Old England", "Winter Hill Trespass" and "A Right to Roam". The former receiving play on Ian Lynch's (Lankum) Fire Draw Near podcast, while "Winter Hill Trespass" gained national press in Country Walking Magazine and The Guardian. "A Right to Roam" (2022) is a collaboration with Commoners Choir and Skelmanthorpe Brass Band and received the accolade of One of the Best Folk Songs of 2022 chosen by Tradfolk. 2024 saw Campbell release True North, an album of Northern English traditional songs recorded on their respective county summits, garnering press from Country Walking Magazine, Folk on Foot and BBC Radio 4 Open Country. Sound of The Sirens

Green Note · London

Sound of the Sirens are a singer-songwriting duo based in Exeter, Devon comprising of Abbe Martin & Hannah Wood. Honing their craft over the past decade, Martin & Wood have cemented themselves as firm favourites as “one of the UK’s finest folk acts” not only on the Westcountry scene, but nationally, and internationally too. Their status, and fast-growing fan-base is not only testament to the pair’s prowess as songwriters and musicians, but as people too. Martin & Wood are two of the hardest working musicians on the scene and wear their hearts very much on their sleeves in terms of their songwriting. The pair glide gracefully through laments of past relationships, and life experiences, as well as highlighting the important topics of the day, namely mental health awareness, and homelessness. Without being pigeonholed into any stereotypical genre, the instrumentation of the band is vast, and varied. Martin (stage right) plays acoustic and high-strung (Nashville tuning) guitar, mandolin, and bass drum, while partner in crime Wood (stage left) plays acoustic and electric guitar, tambourine, snare drum, and the piano. The pairs’ musical and vocal dexterity dovetail beautifully...
