Johnny Campbell

Cabbage Patch Pub · Twickenham

Johnny Campbell's work delves deep into folk song and story. His 2020 album, From Hull & Halifax & Hell (2020) took him to the Faroe Islands, where he recorded a live album on the island of Nolsoy. Since musical instruments hadn't arrived on the islands until the 19th century, this was perhaps the first time English traditional songs had been recorded on the islands. The album earned him album of the week with blues and roots radio and reviews with British folk press. Since March 2020, Campbell hasn't relented, releasing three singles, "Hard Times Of Old England", "Winter Hill Trespass" and "A Right to Roam". The former receiving play on Ian Lynch's (Lankum) Fire Draw Near podcast, while "Winter Hill Trespass" gained national press in Country Walking Magazine and The Guardian. "A Right to Roam" (2022) is a collaboration with Commoners Choir and Skelmanthorpe Brass Band and received the accolade of One of the Best Folk Songs of 2022 chosen by Tradfolk. 2024 saw Campbell release True North, an album of Northern English traditional songs recorded on their respective county summits, garnering press from Country Walking Magazine, Folk on Foot and BBC Radio 4 Open Country. Liz Simcock

Cabbage Patch Pub · Twickenham

Liz Simcock has been called one of the country’s finest female singer songwriters. Her songs – often autobiographical and highly personal – are immediately accessible to audiences and injected with poetry, emotion and splashes of humour. In 1999, she featured on the Playpen Album of New Acoustic Music alongside Eliza Carthy, Billy Bragg, Eddi Reader and Kathryn Williams. Since then, she has trodden an independent path, gaining a growing reputation as a performer and songwriter. Liz counts Richard Thompson, Clive Gregson, Boo Hewerdine and Joni Mitchell amongst her songwriting influences. Liz has made five albums. Friday Night Train Home, released in 2013, featured the virtuoso backing of Dave Ellis and Boo Howard. In 2015 and 2017, Liz toured with Clive Gregson performing songs from the Gregson & Collister back catalogue and promoting an album of brand new Gregson songs. As always though, Liz’s main focus is on her own songwriting and live performances. 2020 brought the release of her fifth album, Winter Hill, a pared down acoustic album featuring one voice, one guitar and a handful of beautifully crafted and previously unreleased songs. Cabbage Patch Pub · Twickenham

A veteran of the folk scene, Benji Kirkpatrick is perhaps best know for his astounding bouzouki and guitar playing in bands such as Bellowhead and Faustus, as well as touring extensively with Seth Lakeman and his stint as a member of folk-rock legends Steeleye Span. However, he is also a superb solo performer and released his latest album, In Phase, in 2023, once again showcasing his outstanding playing, singing and songwriting. Benji recorded the new material with engineer and producer, Pete Brown (son of Joe Brown, brother of Sam) at his studio in Oxfordshire. Work started at the end of summer 2022 and finished in spring 2023. Featured guests include Pete Thomas and Joelle Barker from Benji's power trio The Excess, Alex Hart (Benji’s bandmate with the Seth Lakeman band), veteran backing vocalist Aitch McRobbie and Pete Brown himself. In Phase is Benji's sixth album with his name on the cover, and the songs range from the intensely personal – as in the title track about trying to make a connection to someone in the non-physical realm – to political and worldwide issues and the search for truth.

The Kimberleys

Cabbage Patch Pub · Twickenham

The Kimberleys are Isobel and Jim Kimberley, a London-based duo whose music brings the rich traditions of British folk into vibrant, contemporary focus. Isobel, originally from Yorkshire, and Jim, an Essex native, first crossed paths through a shared love of songwriting and storytelling. Isobel’s early immersion in folk music - from the clubs of Yorkshire to sharing bills with icons like Dick Gaughan at university - laid the foundation for her artistic voice, further shaped by years spent in the USA. Jim, meanwhile, carved a path as a session drummer in London, with early ties to the folk scene that included a stint with the Albion Band. What began as a collaboration around Isobel’s original songs evolved into something deeper. While touring and recording that material, the pair often returned to traditional folk songs for their own enjoyment. It wasn’t long before that private passion became the centre of their creative world. A chance encounter at a friend’s birthday party with Cathy Lesurf (Fairport Convention, Fiddlers Dram) sparked a new direction - leading to their first folk album, Turn The Glass, featuring revered guests like Gordon Giltrap, Andy Cutting, and Dave S...

The Lost Trades

Cabbage Patch Pub · Twickenham

The Lost Trades are a folk/Americana trio based in the West Country, with a cool Laurel Canyon vibe. With a sound that is reminiscent of the California folk scene of the late 60s’s/early 70’s, their three-part harmonies have been described as "flawless", "spine tingling" and "magical". After a global pandemic cut short their first tour after just a single sold-out gig, the band retreated to their songwriting rooms to work on their debut album, The Bird, The Book & The Barrel. The album was released in June 2021 and was well received, spending eight months in the Official UK Folk Albums Chart. The follow-up, Petrichor, was released in March 2023, and immediately followed suit, entering the chart number 31. A live performance involves easy interchanging of instruments, including guitar, ukulele, bass and percussion, at different points. There's always a fun intimacy to the show, with the group engaging in comfortable repartee with each other and the audience like a group of old friends.

Refreshingly open, expressive and engaging, his performances place a spotlight on human stories, with masterful guitar arrangements that showcase impressive skills while giving the songs themselves the space to shine. Matt, who also performs in the Dovetail Trio with Rosie Hood and Jamie Roberts, is renowned for his traditional singing as well as his skills on the melodeon, concertina and mandolin. Tarren

Cabbage Patch Pub · Twickenham

Tarren is a collaboration between Sid Goldsmith, Alex Garden and Danny Pedler. Formed in 2021, the trio combines cittern, concertina, fiddle and accordion to create music they call New-Folk, inspired by the English tradition while incorporating modern influences and their trademark modular hooks and riffs. Tarren began with a sharing of compositions over the internet during the lockdowns of 2021. Fast forward a few months and they were able to meet in person with a set of songs and tunes that they had each explored separately but never heard with their collective instrumental voices. Fun was had, plans were made. They released their debut album Revel in 2022 to high critical acclaim with the album being likened to Faustus and Lau’s iconic debut Lightweights and Gentlemen. This success was built on in 2024 with the release of Tarren's second studio album, Outside Time.

Martin Simpson

Cabbage Patch Pub · Twickenham

Martin Simpson needs little introduction to anyone interested in acoustic music. Unquestionably one of the genre’s most revered musicians, he is equally at home playing English traditional folk, American folk and blues and his own compositions. He is universally acclaimed as a fingerstyle guitarist and slide player and is a fine banjo-picker to boot. In the 18 years of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, he was nominated 32 times, 13 of those as Musician of the Year, winning the accolade twice. Martin’s latest album, Some Kind of Jubilee, was released in September 2026. After more than half a century as a professional musician, the album bears witness to an artist at the very top of his game. He travels the length and breadth of the UK and beyond, giving rapt audiences passion, sorrow, love, beauty, tragedy and majesty through his playing, and TwickFolk is delighted to welcome him back once again for what promises to be a remarkable and intimate solo performance. When Martin last played for us in 2024, the evening was sold out weeks in advance - early booking advised.
