About this event

Rant is on Saturday 8 May 2027 at Memorial Hall, Reeth, with doors at 19:30. Tickets start at £11, including the booking fee.

Coming back to Reeth for the fourth time, RANT remain at the forefront of the Scottish fiddle scene. The meeting of four of the country’s finest players, the quartet use just their fiddles to weave a tapestry of melodies, textures, layers and sounds. Bethany Reid from Shetland, Anna Massie and Lauren MacColl from the Highland peninsula of the Black Isle, and Gillian Frame from the Isle of Arran join forces to showcase the combined resonance of their instruments with repertoire unearthed from both old collections and their own contemporary writing. RANT create a sound which is both spacious and lush, yet retaining all the earthy bite and spark synonymous with a Scottish fiddle player. ‘Live in Glasgow’ was recorded during one special night in Cottiers Theatre in the heart of the city’s west end. It is a celebration of the place the band met during their student days - a city which has been at the centre of their music making ever since - and is the culmination of 14 years of honing their craft together as a quartet. ‘Live in Glasgow’ is their first release on vinyl. Their live set reflects years of honing their sound together and their love for the music of their respect...

Jaywalkers

Memorial Hall · Reeth

As those who have been fortunate enough to catch them in full flight will testify, a Jaywalkers show is an exhilarating experience. UK-based they may be but many from the other side of the Atlantic have complimented them on their particularly stylish delivery of this virtuosic and rich brand of Americana, Bluegrass & Country. These three outstanding musicians have developed a tight bond, demonstrated through their well-crafted, tasteful arrangements and ability to bounce ideas around the stage. The combination of powerhouse bass, flame-fingered mandolin, blistering fiddle and three-part harmony pack a punch as fiery as Jay’s lead vocals and delivers a rich sound that far exceeds what you’d expect from an acoustic trio. Mandolin maestro Mike Giverin is also the chief songwriter, and the band’s originals cover themes including the travails of the travelling musician, saving the planet and even tales of being stranded halfway up a mountain. All of which stand proudly alongside their clever covers, foot-stomping bluegrass tunes and superb interpretations of old country classics. In Jay Bradberry, the band has a truly sensational lead singer and fiddle player, and double bassis...

Debbie Bond Trio afternoon show

Black Frog Presents at the Hot Box · Chelmsford

DEBBIE BOND - American blues singer, guitar player, and songwriter has been performing for decades in the Alabama backwoods and is now a regular on the Southern US and the European club and festival circuit. Influenced by raw juke joint blues and the famed sounds of Muscle Shoals, Debbie's impressive story includes years of performing with traditional Alabama blues musicians, like Johnny Shines, Eddie Kirkland, Willie King, Shar Baby, Little Jimmy Reed and more. Immersion in Alabama roots music has deeply flavoured her guitar playing, soulful voice and original song writing, giving her a contemporary and original sound, with soul, blues, and jazz influences. Debbie's collaboration with British-born keyboard and harmonica player “Radiator” Rick has added a swampy New Orleans edge to her sound. Debbie is a blues activist and founder of the Alabama Blues Project, a non-profit dedicated to promoting and preserving the state’s blues heritage. She is the recipient of numerous awards for her blues education work, has been recognised by the Alabama Music Hall of Fame, and the national Blues Hall of Fame. In 2023, she was nominated for the UK Blues Federation's "Best International Blu...
