The Kimberleys are Isobel and Jim Kimberley, a London-based duo whose music brings the rich traditions of British folk into vibrant, contemporary focus. Isobel, originally from Yorkshire, and Jim, an Essex native, first crossed paths through a shared love of songwriting and storytelling. Isobel’s early immersion in folk music - from the clubs of Yorkshire to sharing bills with icons like Dick Gaughan at university - laid the foundation for her artistic voice, further shaped by years spent in the USA. Jim, meanwhile, carved a path as a session drummer in London, with early ties to the folk scene that included a stint with the Albion Band. What began as a collaboration around Isobel’s original songs evolved into something deeper. While touring and recording that material, the pair often returned to traditional folk songs for their own enjoyment. It wasn’t long before that private passion became the centre of their creative world. A chance encounter at a friend’s birthday party with Cathy Lesurf (Fairport Convention, Fiddlers Dram) sparked a new direction - leading to their first folk album, Turn The Glass, featuring revered guests like Gordon Giltrap, Andy Cutting, and Dave S...

Johnny Campbell

Cabbage Patch Pub · Twickenham

Johnny Campbell's work delves deep into folk song and story. His 2020 album, From Hull & Halifax & Hell (2020) took him to the Faroe Islands, where he recorded a live album on the island of Nolsoy. Since musical instruments hadn't arrived on the islands until the 19th century, this was perhaps the first time English traditional songs had been recorded on the islands. The album earned him album of the week with blues and roots radio and reviews with British folk press. Since March 2020, Campbell hasn't relented, releasing three singles, "Hard Times Of Old England", "Winter Hill Trespass" and "A Right to Roam". The former receiving play on Ian Lynch's (Lankum) Fire Draw Near podcast, while "Winter Hill Trespass" gained national press in Country Walking Magazine and The Guardian. "A Right to Roam" (2022) is a collaboration with Commoners Choir and Skelmanthorpe Brass Band and received the accolade of One of the Best Folk Songs of 2022 chosen by Tradfolk. 2024 saw Campbell release True North, an album of Northern English traditional songs recorded on their respective county summits, garnering press from Country Walking Magazine, Folk on Foot and BBC Radio 4 Open Country. Ainsley Hamill

Water Rats · London

Ainsley Hamill is one of the UK’s most distinctive and versatile singers, known for her remarkable voice, storytelling, and emotive style. Hailing from the West Coast of Scotland, Ainsley has built a career celebrated for its authenticity, merging traditional Scottish folk with a modern touch. In 2025, Ainsley released her third studio album, Fable, produced by Sam Kelly. Drawing inspiration from Scottish folklore and myth, Fable combines Gaelic, Scots, and original compositions with a rich tapestry of sounds from musicians Alistair Iain Paterson, Toby Shaer, Signy Jakobsdottir and Euan Burton. Recorded in Glasgow, the album delves into the legends and landscapes of Scotland, with each track weaving a narrative that resonates with ancient stories and contemporary relevance. Her previous album, Not Just Ship Land (2021), named The Guardian’s Album of the Month, showcased her “voice thick with velvet and mirk,” likened to the warmth of The Breath and the forlorn depth of early Adele. Produced by Malcolm Lindsay, the album celebrates the unsung heroes of Govan and Glasgow, capturing Ainsley’s move into a more introspective and thematic songwriting style, with a focus on femi...
